Our new ECITB Pipefitting and Welding Scholars enjoyed an action-packed day of team building at Cannington Activity Centre, helping them build friendships and develop valuable teamwork skills as they begin their course.
The scholars, who have joined the programme from across Somerset, took part in a variety of exciting challenges designed to encourage collaboration, communication and confidence. Throughout the day, they tackled activities including Jacob’s Ladder, The Big See-Saw, The Low Ropes and Team Skis, as well as putting their creativity and problem-solving abilities to the test by building their own catapults.
What began as a group of students getting to know one another quickly turned into a supportive team, with plenty of laughter along the way. Under the guidance of the Outdoors Activity Center’s instructors, the scholars worked together to overcome a range of challenges, encouraging and motivating each other to succeed.
Among the tasks set for the group were lifting teammates through a giant net and balancing on a steadily decreasing stack of mini-crates. Each challenge required careful planning, communication and teamwork, with students discussing strategies and working together to find the best solutions.
By the end of the day, everyone had become fully engaged in the activities, building confidence, overcoming shyness and strengthening connections with their fellow scholars.
A special mention goes to Specialist Trainer Assessor Vern Coker, who bravely took on the Jacob’s Ladder challenge and showed fantastic determination throughout the day.
The team building event provided the perfect start to the scholars’ journey, helping them form strong relationships that will support them throughout their studies and future careers in the engineering industry.
Starting a new programme can be daunting, so the team building day offered a fantastic opportunity to grow in confidence and begin making new friendships. The Scholars showed excellent teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills and encouraged each other every step, climb and jump of the way. It was great to see how quickly they came together as a group, and these qualities are exactly what will help them succeed in their studies and in developing their future careers in the engineering industry.
