History, Heritage and Archaeology lecturer shares medieval expertise with global audiences online, in print and on TV

📆 Wednesday 25th March

Students joining the History, Heritage and Archaeology (HHA) degree at UCS will learn from a lecturer who is not only passionate about history, he’s actively shaping how it’s told around the world.

Dr Sean McGlynn has recently been in high demand across television, publishing and academia.

In the past few months, Dr McGlynn has filmed his fourth television documentary, by a leading French production company. He also appeared in a major documentary broadcast on PBS in the United States. In both productions, he shared his expertise on one of his specialist areas: medieval warfare.

His work has also featured widely in major media outlets. He recently wrote several articles for Radio Times and BBC History Extra exploring the enduring legend of Robin Hood, coinciding with a major new MGM television series.

Publishing and Teaching

Alongside his media work, Dr McGlynn continues to publish regularly in respected history journals and national publications. Recent highlights include reviews in leading academic journals on medieval heresy and medieval government. He wrote a feature for The Spectator, and a piece on Paul Cézanne that appeared on the cover of The Critic magazine.

His dedication to teaching has also been recognised. He was recently nominated for the prestigious Inspiring History Teaching Awards for his work with students at Strode campus.

For students considering the HHA degree at UCS, this means learning directly from an historian who is actively contributing to national conversations about history; appearing on international television, and publishing widely across both academic and mainstream media.

As Dr McGlynn’s work shows, history isn’t just something that happened in the past. It’s a subject that continues to shape culture, media and public debate today.
