Jessica Wins Regional Heat of National SPARKS Competition

📆 Monday 16th March
A talented electrical student from Bridgwater has secured a place in a prestigious national final after winning the South regional heat of the SPARKS Female Skills Competition 2026.

Jessica Lott, a student at Bridgwater & Taunton College, impressed judges with her technical ability and practical skills during the regional stage of the competition. Her success means she will now progress to the national final, which will take place in April.

Organised by SPARKS Magazine, the competition celebrates the talents of female electrical learners across the UK and aims to encourage more women to pursue careers in the electrical industry. Competitors are challenged to complete a live practical electrical installation task, testing their knowledge, precision and ability to work under pressure.

Jessica’s success in the South regional heat highlights both her growing expertise in electrical installation and the increasing number of women entering what has traditionally been a male-dominated trade.

Winning the regional heat was an amazing feeling. The competition was challenging, but it was a great opportunity to test my skills and meet other learners from across the country.

I’d definitely encourage other women to get involved in the trade. It’s a great career and competitions like this show what you can achieve.

Competitions such as the SPARKS Female Skills Competition play an important role in promoting diversity in the electrical sector, where women are still under-represented.

Jessica hopes her achievement will encourage more young women to consider a career in the electrical industry.
