UCS College Group is proud to celebrate the success of sports scholarship student George Williams, a Sports & Exercise Science student at Bridgwater College, who has earned international recognition following an outstanding season with Bristol Bears U18.
Now in the final months of his course, George has enjoyed an exceptional journey as part of Team UCS College Group. Across his two years with the college’s rugby programme, he has been a shining example of what it means to be a student-athlete, representing the college with distinction while competing at academy level for Bristol Bears.
George’s international call-up follows a remarkable season with the Bears, where he was rewarded for his consistently impressive performances throughout the academy league campaign by being named Bristol Bears Under 18s Back of the Year. His contributions helped the team win the Prem Academy League, including a standout appearance in the final.
His outstanding form earned him selection for a 40-player England U18 training camp, where he spent four days training alongside some of the country’s most promising young rugby talents as part of preparations for the upcoming U18 Six Nations Festival in April.
Adding to an already impressive year, George has also been called into the Scotland U18 training group, with the opportunity to potentially represent the side in the U18 Six Nations programme.Â
He has spent the past two weekends in Edinburgh with the Scotland squad, and just this past weekend he gained his first U18 international cap against Ireland. He is hoping to be further involved again over the next couple of weeks, working to be included in the U18 Six Nations, which is being held in France in early April.Â
A former student of Haygrove School, George has remained committed to his studies at Bridgwater College, successfully balancing the demands of elite sport with his academic responsibilities. His dedication both on and off the pitch has made him a role model for fellow students and aspiring athletes.
George’s achievements from this season reflect his hard work, commitment and determination. He has been a great example of what it takes to succeed as a student-athlete, and we are incredibly proud to see one of our students recognised at international level.
