UCS College Group recently welcomed a group of high-achieving students from Hinds Community College in Mississippi, USA, as part of a long-standing international partnership that has been running for more than 20 years.
The collaboration between the two colleges provides valuable cultural and educational exchange opportunities. Each year, students from both institutions visit one another to learn about differences in culture, communication and how industries operate in different environments. Both colleges take away experiences and knowledge that help support and develop their own students and learning environments.
During this visit, UCS College Group hosted students from Hinds Community College’s Honours Institute, a programme made up of some of the college’s highest performing students. Their areas of study included Nursing, Business Administration, English, Teaching, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Culinary Arts, Aviation, and Radio and Television Broadcasting.
While in the UK, the students took part in a tour of the South of England, visiting historic landmarks including Salisbury Cathedral, Westminster Cathedral, Wells and Bath, alongside other locations that showcase the history and culture of Somerset and the surrounding area.
Students also experienced some traditional Somerset activities, including visiting the coastal village of Kilve and taking part in a game of skittles, giving them the chance to experience local culture and community traditions first-hand.
A key part of the visit was the opportunity for the Hinds students to stay with host families. This allowed them to experience everyday life in the UK and gain a better understanding of English culture and daily life.
Over the years this partnership with Hinds Community College has become incredibly valuable for everyone involved. It gives students the opportunity to experience a different culture, learn from each other and gain perspectives that help prepare them for the future.
